Safe Decisions Week at Aurora High School
For the second year in a row, Balanced Asset Management partnered with State Farm Insurance to bring "Safe Decisions Week" to Aurora High School, my children's school district. During the week of September 9-13, 2019, students at the high school had a chance to participate in activities to educate and encourage the use of safe decisions in their everyday lives.
Each day of the week focused on different topics, which included texting and driving, distracted driving, alcohol and drug use, vaping and mental health awareness. We brought in educational speakers and alcohol/drug/distracted driving simulators which allowed students to experience what it looked and felt like to drive distracted or impaired. Members from the DEA, FBI and Aurora Police Department were present throughout the week to speak with students on various safety topics. At the end of the week, students were able to pledge their commitment by purchasing Safe Decisions t-shirts and signing a "I Promise to Make Safe Decisions" banner.
The week wrapped up at the Friday night football game where students proudly wore their Safe Decisions t-shirts to the game and the banner with signatures was displayed. The football team wore custom grey uniforms in honor of Safe Decisions Week. Some of the highlights of the night included having Bernie Kosar (Browns quarterback 1985-1993) present to participate in the coin toss and a flyover by Life Flight to show their support.
I was proud to be a part of this impactful week at Aurora High School and look forward to sponsoring this event for many more years to come.
